A wonderful site full of great stuff about the amazing jazz pianist Bud Powell.
*diary
[makes mental note to update this page a bit more often...oh well, this is the lazy, hazy days of high summer after all.]
Recent listening comprises Bud Powell - one of the all-time greats of jazz piano. A tortured genius if ever there was one, Bud was brutalised by the police during a raid on a jazz club that left him permanently in pain. His wife dosed him every day with heavy sedatives to keep him docile. Despite his suffering he made some of the best jazz ever... bop, be-bop, post-bop whatever you want to call it. I'm also reading his biography... a great book by Francis Paudras, a frenchman who worshipped Bud, befriended him and tried his best to keep him on the straight and narrow.
Apart from that I'm really digging the new Moritz Von Oswald Trio live album
which seems to combine the best facets of cosmische rock and dub techno... some of the sounds on it are very Sun Ra-esque.
As always there's loads of new dubstep, uk funky and associated genres to enjoy from Peverlist, T Williams, Downliners Sekt, Roughquest and Jimmy Edgar.
Finally - must mention the Shangaan Electro album - new wave dance music out of South Africa which plays at 180bpm and has the magical sound of the marimba as a main ingredient.

"If I had to choose one single musician for his artistic integrity, for the
incomparable originality of his creation and the grandeur of his work, it would
be Bud Powell. He was in a class by himself" (Bill Evans)
