Check out John French's myspace site - with some info on his new book on Beefheart - Through the Eyes of Magic..

*diary
I seem to only read music books at the moment. In the past year I must have consumed at least a couple of dozen including the amazing 800+ page John French book on Beefheart, 'Through the Eyes of Magic'. Other books I really enjoyed include the John Kruth biography of Townes Van Zandt, 'To Live's To Fly' and the story of Sam Phillips and Sun records by Kevin and Tanya Crouch, 'Sun King'. Sam Phillips was a pretty amazing person - he only wanted to record the raw and undiluted blues and rockabilly artists from the Memphis area. He wasn't interested in smooth or commercial music. He wanted it untamed - if it had a few mistakes in it, he didn't care. A man after my own heart. Again on a Beefheart tip - the Bill Harkleroad book Lunar Notes - although superceded in many ways by the John French tome - is still well worth reading.

specialising in self-produced programmes, playing all manner of leftfield music with interviews and guests aplenty! Claire presented the daily show on totallyradio for almost 5 years, building a loyal following.

With a background at Xfm and the weekly review show "Testing Testing with Claire Kember" on national SBN, Claire's been championing new and exciting music since 1996.
