totallyradio: the daily show
The show at the heart of totallyradio. Packed with new music across the board – altindie, leftfield electronica, hip hop, lo-fi, Latin, jazz, country, African - anything that's worth opening your ears to. Stacks of pre-releases, vintage vinyl, gig news all feature as do co-hosts and interviews with the twinkling stars. Once a week, The Focus concentrates on one label, genre, event, or theme. The daily show is about music - categories are irrelevant.

05-apr-12 the daily show
The baron sighed and lifted his gaze from the opened ledger on his naugahyde desk. The accounts were in a mess, no doubt about it. Something would have to give. He contemplated selling some of his late father's antique maps or perhaps the original copy of Action Comics #1 that he kept in the cigar humidor in his study. His gaze alighted on a small box of orignal post-punk 45s that had been passed down as heirlooms, from generation to generation. Time for them to go? Maybe.

The baron remained grim-faced as the last few seconds of life drained away from the wasp he had trapped inside the summerhouse. Then a cruel smile slowly crept across his features as though he was contemplating another lingering death soon to be accomplished. "And what will be the soundtrack?" he mused to himself. "Roots reggae, dubbed-out electronica, 60s mod or north african pop?" However, distracted by a nearby bumblebee, the thought of music soon left him as he sought a rolled-up newspaper from the magazine rack.

A faint smile played upon the lips of the baron as he toyed with his young guest. "I take it you have studied the stylistic links between 1950s doo-wop and the current post-dubstep outfits?". His guest faltered somewhat as the bright sunlight flitered through the dappled leaves in the summerhouse, partially blinding him. "Oh and by the way have you tried these cucumber sandwiches, they're delicious?". The baron's question hung in the air and remained unanswered as the gramophone in the corner continued to play a lock-groove from a forgotten rave-era 12" single.

"Allow me to show you into the drawing room, the baron will join you shortly. Please, do have the radio on by all means, I think you'll find it a novel diversion. His lordship is very fond of this curious mix of bygone 50s and 60s antiquities and what he assures me is cutting-edge dubstep and uk post-funky tunes. Yes, we used to have a gardener but I'm afraid times are not what they used to be. Do try one of these cucumber sandwiches, cook made them fresh today. Ah I think I hear his lordship upon the stair, I'll leave you to get acqainted. Do see yourself out afterwards. Goodbye".

Charity shops. Not the places they used to be for scoring rarities but surprises do turn up and there's three from the 50p box on today's daily show. It's an 80s trip back in time with the Mo-Dettes, Minutemen and Butthole Surfers. Reggae from The Rhythm Rulers and Cornell Campbell plus pre-releases from Diagrams, Hooded Fang and THEESatisfaction.

The darker side of the Velvet Underground on the daily show with wild and heavy moments from the classic first two albums - plus live versions of Heroin and Sister Ray that used to be rare but are probably a bit more well known now. Screeeeeeeech.
